The opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games is under way
The ceremony kicked-off in Pyeongchang, South Korea with with a countdown followed by fire works and parade of nations.
This first segment, entitled countdown, has been described as follows: Five children begin their time travel on a quest of peace. The children follow the White Tiger, one of the four guardian gods and protectors of peace, and they arrive at an ancient field of snow where heaven, earth, and nature are in communion with people. A heavenly altar appears in the land of peace to connect the heavens and earth, with everyone dancing in hope for peace.
Neither US president Donald Trump nor North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will be attending tonight’s opening ceremony. But vice president Mike Pence and Kim Jong-un’s younger sister are attending the event.
