English Premier League giant, Arsenal has finally completed a club-record signing of Gabonese striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.
Metro Sports reports that Arsenal confirmed the deal for the 28-year-old striker who was the highest goal scorer in the German Bundesliga last season with 31 goals for a club record fee of £56 million.
The pacy forward is believed to have signed a three-and-a-half-year deal that runs until 2021 and makes him the highest-paid player at the North London club on a massive £180,000-a-week.
Arsenal had sent a delegation of officials to Dortmund last week led by chief executive Ivan Gazidis and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat, and a breakthrough in talks was finally made over the past weekend.
The prolonged transfer was only completed this morning after the agreed fees eclipsed the figure paid to Lyon for Alexandre Lacazette last summer.
A statement from Arsenal confirmed the completed deal thus:
“The 28-year-old has joined us from Borussia Dortmund on a long-term contract for a club-record fee.
This deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes and Auba’s squad number will be confirmed shortly.”
Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger had been keen to sign a proven, high-caliber player to replace contract rebel Alexis Sanchez, who moved to Manchester United in a straight swap for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Aubameyang’s move to the Emirates sees him reunited with Mkhitaryan whom he enjoyed a fruitful relationship with during their two seasons together at Dortmund.
Arsenal official Twitter page also confirmed the deal for Auba who scored 98 goals in 144 Bundesliga appearances while at Dortmund and won the Bundesliga golden boot last season.
