With the confirmed cases of the deadly coronavirus on the rise in Nigeria, Chief Justice Tanko Muhammad has recommended that the judiciary suspends sitting to curtail the pandemic.
The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday confirmed the 35th case and the first death.
In an updated letter on Monday, Justice Muhammad ordered the closure of the courts.
The CJN, however, revealed that all federal judicial bodies are expected to continue operation.
“In view of the reality of COVID-19 in the country and order to take preventive steps, all heads of courts are from tomorrow, the 24th of March, directed to suspend court sittings for an initial period of two weeks, at the first instance, except in matters that are urgent, essential or time-bound according to our extant laws.”
