– This is 419 – Nigerians react
Sahara Reporter publisher, Sowore has commenced crowd funding for his ambition to be Nigeria’s President in 2019. The journalist said his target is to raise $2 million.
Checks by TheNigerian revealed that he has already received a donation of $2,198 from 20 donors since launching his appeal fund.
The highest donor was made by one Ehi Fred Ayabure who made a donation of $300, while the lowest was by one Ismail Olaonipekun who made a donation of $8.
He posted on his website, gofundme, “Your support can bring forth a new set of patriotic and conscientious leaders that will create the Nigeria that we all long for.
“I, Omoyele Sowore, intend to lead this charge with your backing and a simple challenge: 10,000 people donate $200 each.”
However, some Nigerians have questioned the true intent of the crowd funding. On social media, some accused the publisher of trying to get himself rich, saying he stands no chance of winning as he has no political experience.
Our reporter who monitored some of the comments on twitter observed intense attack on the publisher and the idea

Imagine everybody going round collecting money from people all over the world saying they are running for president. Do they do this in the US or UK? Are you helping the Nigerian environment? This is soft 419!
