1,072 arrested, 200 firearms recovered in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has released its 2024 operational report, highlighting significant achievements in combating crime and ensuring public safety.

According to the report, the command released on Tuesday which was signed by its spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, a total of 1,072 suspects were arrested for various criminal offences, including armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, and cultism while 200 firearms were recovered including 21 AK-47 rifles, one submachine gun, one G-3 rifle and 1,863 rounds of ammunition.

Additionally, 124 vehicles were recovered, comprising motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles.

It noted that about 100 kidnapped or abducted victims were rescued within the period.

Giving the breakdown, Ndukwe stated that “over 130-armed robbery suspects, 100 kidnapping or abduction suspects, 55 murder suspects, and more than 111 suspects for unlawful possession of firearms were arrested.

“Additionally, 226 suspects involved in cultism and 450 others linked to various crimes such as burglary, stealing, and fraud were also arrested.

“Items recovered included over 200 firearms, including 21 AK-47 rifles, one submachine gun, and one G-3 rifle; 1,863 rounds of ammunition; and 124 vehicles comprising motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles.”

He said that the state Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has expressed gratitude to the citizens of Enugu State for their support and outlined the command’s priorities for 2025, emphasising enhanced security and public safety.

Uzuegbu also commended the collaborative efforts of sister security agencies, the Neighbourhood Watch Group, Forest Guards, local vigilantes, and hunters, as well as the personnel of the command for their resilience and bravery.
