19-Year-Old Girl Takes Her Life After Scoring Low in UTME
The demise of Opesusi Faith Timilehin, 19, is being mourned by the Odogunyan community in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
After obtaining a dismal result on the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Opesusi allegedly committed suicide.
Following the unfortunate death of 19-year-old Opesusi Faith Timilehin, who reportedly committed suicide after obtaining a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result that left her severely dejected, a dark cloud looms over the Odogunyan community in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Faith, who lived in Lagos but was originally from Abeokuta in Ogun State, was determined to get a degree in microbiology. After receiving a UTME score of 190, which was significantly below her expectations and, in her opinion, insufficient to gain admission to a university, she became emotionally overwhelmed.
A close family friend claims that Faith had previously attempted the UTME. This year’s result was especially disappointing because she had previously taken the test and done better.
The family acquaintance revealed, “She insisted that there was no hope left for her future and that her prior score was higher.”
On Monday, shortly after receiving her results, Faith apparently consumed a dangerous drug called “Push Out” in the area. Despite being sent to Kolak Hospital in Odogunyan, she was not saved by the medical staff. Shortly after her arrival, she was pronounced dead.
Tragically, a bitter reminder of a desire that might have come true came when, only 30 minutes after her death, she received an email notification offering her provisional admission to study microbiology.

The email was sent shortly after it was established that she had died. In fact, she had received an offer of admission, according to a family source.
The local community, which remembers her as devout, courteous, and soft-spoken, is grieving over her sudden death.
Grieving neighbors and supporters expressed their dissatisfaction with the examination system, and her distraught parents traveled from Abeokuta to set up her funeral. Many attributed the young woman’s dejection to the emotional pressure brought on by the general lackluster performance in this year’s UTME.
