As the states’ chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) submit the lists of their candidates for the States’ Houses of Assembly election holding next year today (Monday), a call has gone to the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja not to succumb to manipulation of the list from Ondo State chapter.
Specifically, the National Secretariat was called upon not to entertain any purported nomination form that may be submitted by one Alexandar Subair from Owo State Constituency 11 being a product of fraud, open robbery and electoral incest of unimaginable proportion.
Making this call in a chat with journalists in Ibadan was Micheal Olumide Owajalaye, who claimed to have won the primary election conducted on the 4th of this month in the Constituency without any dispute whatsoever.
According to the aspiring lawmaker, 63 delegates participated in the election out of which he polled 31 votes against 30 polled by his opponent with two void votes after which he was openly congratulated by his opponent.
He maintained that the primary election was conducted in line with all the laid down rules and regulations with all the statutory bodies like the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agents and others in attendance.
Owajalaye said it was shocking and embarrassing to him when he got to the state Secretariat of the party to learn that the nomination form meant for him as the candidate for the Constituency had been collected by his opponent, who flatly lost the election to him and even admitted by his open felicitation with him after the election.
“I never imagined that all I was seeing of my opponent was just a facade as he exhibited good sportsmanship, but unknown to me that he was up to something else, mischief and political slander as I was made to understand that in collusion with some party stalwarts, the popular wish of the people was altered.
“This cannot stand as I have the support of the party in the Constituency to ensure that the mandate freely given to me to represent them in the Ondo State House of Assembly as from next year is not stolen. I hereby call on our leaders at the national level to ensure that this rape of democracy is not sustained”, he stated.
The aspiring lawmaker recalled how impunity rocked the party to its very foundation in the recent past and enjoined that such should not be allowed to rear its ugly head again so soon in the party, adding, “this kind of distraction should be avoided for now as all genuine party members must work together towards rebuilding it to an enviable height it previously attained”.
