Ronaldo to miss Liverpool clash over son’s death
MANCHESTER United will be without their main centre forward Cristiano Ronaldo for Tuesday night’s Premier League fixture against Liverpool at Anfield.
The 37-year-old star announced the death of his infant son on Monday night and United have now given him time off to deal with the unfortunate loss.
Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez had announced in October that they were expecting twins but only on of the babies, a girl, survived.
The club confirmed in the afternoon that their top scorer will not be playing against their bitter rivals in the night fixture.
“Family is more important than everything and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time,” Manchester United said in a statement.
Georgina already had a daughter Alana, three, for Ronaldo, and the Manchester United star also has son Cristiano Jr., 11, and twins Eva and Mateo, four.
Ronaldo, who scored his 60th career hat-trick in the 3-2 win over Norwich City on Saturday, is United’s top scorer this season with 21 goals from 34 appearances in all competitions.
