Queen Elizabeth II of England is dead. She died after battling an undisclosed illness.

The British monarch passed away at the Balmoral royal estate in Scotland at the age of 96.

Queen Elizabeth was Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. She succeeded her father king George VI in 1952.

Until her death, she was also the head of the Commonwealth and monarch of 15 countries.

Her reign lasted for 70 years. She would be succeeded by her son, Prince Charles.

Queen Elizabeth II was Nigeria’s head of state until 1963 when the country became a Republic.
