Drama as man steals policeman’s phone on visit to bail friend
THERE was a mild drama on Friday, September 23, when a 45-year-old man, Wahab Afeez, who was arrested for allegedly stealing a mobile phone valued at N120,000 in a police station in Lagos, was arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate court in Ogba.
According to the police, the incident occured last week, when the accused went to the Akinpelu Police Divisional Headquarters in Bolade Oshodi, to negotiate the bail of his friend reportedly being detained at the station.
The prosecutor, Rachael Williams told the court that the accused gained entry into the office where the phone was lying on a table.
Though Wahab denied having anything to do with the phone theft, the police arraign him on a two-count charge of stealing and unlawful entry into an office.
The discovery of the phone theft, according to Williams, threw officers on duty into instant confusion, prompting the Divisional Police Officer to order for immediate investigation.
The presiding magistrate, O. O. Akingbesote, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in the same sum.
The case was adjourned for a mention, while the accused was remanded in a custodial centre, in Kirikiri town.
