Int’l Friendly: Iwobi blames poor officiating for Super Eagles’ loss to Algeria
Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi has blamed poor officiating for the team’s 2-1 loss to the Desert Foxes of Algeria.
TNN reported that Nigeria was beaten 2-1 by the North Africans in an international exhibition match at Oran, Algeria on Tuesday.
Terem Moffi gave Nigeria an early lead but the hosts staged an impressive comeback through Riyad Mahrez’s spot kick and Attal’s brilliant free-kick to snatch a deserving win.
Earlier before the Algerian goals, Nigeria’s second goal by Ademola Lookman was ruled out for offside.
Reacting via Twitter on Monday, Iwobi questioned why Lookman’s goal was ruled out, arguing that it wasn’t an offside goal.
He said the officiating was questionable.
“I Understand Refereeing Isn’t Easy At All & All Referees Should Be Treated With Respect… But Yesterday Was Surely Questionable Aha?,” he tweeted.
Sharing a photo the ball position before Lookman’s goal which was ruled out for offside, Iwobi wrote, “One Example… Really Confused As To How This Was Disallowed For Offside.”
Super Eagles bowed to the defeat after playing a 2-2 draw with Algeria Team B on Friday.
