Injury rules Osimhen out of Super Eagles friendly vs Portugal
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have suffered a major blow ahead of their international exhibition game against World Cup-bound Portugal.
This is as star attacker Victor Osimhen has reportedly picked injury. Pirates defender Olisa Ndah will also be unavailable for the match due to injury.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the development via its social media handle on Monday.
According to the NFF, Cyriel Dessers will replace Osimhen, while Chidozie Awaziem will replace Ndah for the Portugal clash.
It tweeted, “Update Portugal V Nigeria friendly: Chidozie Awaziem replaces injured Olisa Ndah, while Cyriel Dessers replaces injured Victor Osimhen.”
The encounter between Portugal and Nigeria will take place at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon on Thursday.
Osimhen played 90 minutes for Serie A leaders, Napoli in their 3-2 win oner Udinese on Saturday. The striker did not pick an injury during the match.
But, a statement from NFF said his club claimed he is injured.
It would be recalled that Osimhen was not released by his club to participate in last AFCON in Cameroon. He was also not in action for the Super Eagles in their last friendly defeat against Algeria.
Napoli’s president was quoted as saying the club would not allow African players to go for international duties, especially the African Cup of Nations.
