INEC set to begin weekly media briefings ahead of 2023 election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to commence its weekly media briefings to inform Nigerians on the progress made by the commission ahead of the 2023 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, in a statement issued on Wednesday, explained that the commission will begin with biweekly briefing and later progress to weekly and daily briefings.
He also assured of the commission’s loyalty to Nigerians who want free, fair, credible and verifiable elections supported by technology, which guarantees transparent accreditation and upload of polling unit results for citizens to view in real-time on the day of the election.
While stressing that there is no going back Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) for the 2023 general elections, the INEC boss appealed to political parties and political leaders to conduct their campaigns peacefully, shunning divisiveness, rancour and violence.
Yakubu, who assured that INEC officials will continue to play their part diligently and conscientiously, also appealed to all stakeholders and the entire citizens to play their own part so as to give Nigerians elections they yearn for.
