Wizkid, Tems win big at American Music Awards
The duo of Nigerian singers, Wizkid and Tem snagged two awards each at the 50th Annual American Music Awards.
The event which was held on November 20, 2022, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, was hosted by Wayne Brandy.
Starboy honcho, Wizkid made history as the first-ever winner of the newly created Favorite Afrobeats Artist of the Year category. He defeated his compatriots, Tems, Burna Boy, CKay and Fireboy DML to clinch the maiden category.
Wizkid also won the Favorite R&B Song of the Year for his collaboration with Tems, ‘Essence’.
Similarly, Tems also clinch another award thanks to her collaboration with Future and Drake on ‘Wait 4 U’ which won the Favourite Hip Hop Song of the Year.
Taylor Swift won Artist of the Year, while Taylor Swift won New Artist of the Year.
Elton John & Dua Lipa’s ‘Cold Heart’ — PNAU Remix was named Collaboration of the Year.
Korean pop group, BTS won Favourite Pop Duo or Group of the Year.
