AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud snagged a brace as France came from behind to pummel Australia 4-1 in their Group D opener at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, on Tuesday night.
Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé and Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot were also on the scoresheet for the defending champions.
Craig Goodwin gave Australia an early lead after scoring just nine minutes into the game at the Al Janoub Stadium.
Rabiot leveled for France in the 27th minute, before Giroud’s first goal of the night put France in the lead five minutes later.
The French added to more goals in the second half with Mbappe finally scoring in the 68th minute after a plethora of missed chances, and Giroud completing his brace three minutes later to wrap up the scoring for the Les Bleus.
The victory send France to top of Group D with three points as Tunisia and Denmark earlier played a goalless draw on Tuesday.
