Controversy over ‘picture’ showing Tinubu with primary school classmates

The social media has been agog since Tuesday, Nov. 22, following an erroneous picture showing the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu with his primary school classmates.

Recall that Tinubu has since 1999 been enmeshed in controversy over his academic records.

Ahead of 2023 election preparations, he told the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that he did not attend a primary or secondary school.

He only said he graduated from the Chicago state university, where he earned a BSc in business administration (accounting) in 1979.

In a twist of event, a screenshot of a Facebook post by one Chidi Cali, made its way to WhatsApp reads:

“Congratulations Nigeria. Hurray…they finally found his classmates. Never mind the change of name… having to explain the transmutation from Amoda Ogunkere Yekini to Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the challenge why it was a torturous journey to finally find his classmates, so I believe with this ‘discovery’, our learned Festus Keyamo will be scratching his head on how to re-spin the theory of homeschooling for his super-intelligent paymaster, former adversary and now boss. If he was 9 in 1947, he is 84 now,” reads the WhatsApp broadcast.

When TheNigerian News verified the picture attached to the post, our team discovered that the picture shows Corona School pupils and the person being referred to as Tinubu is Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

In fact, Osinbajo uploaded the picture online on October 5, 2021 when he eulogised the impact of his teachers on his career, using the picture of his primary school classmates and his teacher.
