Lewandowski nets first World Cup goal as Poland crush Saudi Arabia 2-0

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski scored his first-ever World Cup goal as Poland defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 in their second Group C game at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar, on Saturday.

Piotr Zieliński opened the scoring for Poland in the 39th minute at the Education City Stadium.

Saudi Arabia dominated the ball possession but were unable to find an equalizer. After the break, the Arabians missed a plethora of goalscoring chances including a penalty.

Lewandowski punished the Saudis further after capitalizing on a defensive error to strike home his first World Cup goal in the 82nd minute.

The strike sealed Poland’s victory and they are now top of Group C with four points having drawn with Mexico in the opener. Lewandoski also missed a penalty in the match against Mexico.

Saudi Arabia came into the game from a historic 2-1 win over Argentina in their first group game.
