Uruguay ended the Black Stars of Ghana’s World Cup knockout stage dream on Friday, after dimming them 2-0 in their final Group H game.

The four-time African champions came into the game with three points from two matches, and need a win to advance to the Round of 16.

Ghana got the opportunity to take an early lead after they were awarded a spot-kick in the 16th minute for a foul on Mohammed Kudus by the Uruguayan goalkeeper Sergio Rochet, but captain Dede Ayew missed the penalty.

De Arrascaeta, then gave Uruguay the lead ten minutes later, before completing his brace in the 32nd minute.

Ghana was seeking revenge for their 2010 controversial loss against Uruguay.

Despite Friday’s win, Uruguay did not advance to the next stage of the 2022 World Cup after South Korea defeated Portugal 1-2 in another Group H tie.
