The Niger State Police Command says that the gunmen, who were arrested at the Minna residence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Representing Niger East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani Musa, have confessed that they were sent to kidnap the lawmaker.

This was made known in a statement issued on Monday Command’s spokesman, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who had earlier told journalists that the motive of the suspects was unknown, adding that investigation was ongoing.

Abiodun explained that in their latest confessional statement, the suspects said they were hinted that senator was traveling to Niger State for the coronation and presentation of staff of Office to the Emir of Kagara by one Sherrif who is now at large.

“Additional facts emerged in the course of investigation, as one of the suspects confessed further that the hoodlums led by the said Sherrif, presently at large targeted the Senator to his home in Minna.”

“The hoodlums suspected that he could be at home, having attended a coronation ceremony at Kagara on the same date and to possibly kidnap him”.

Abiodun said the gunmen ransacked the residence under the pretext of the purported search execution, noting that efforts are being made to apprehend other members of the gang.

The gunmen had invaded the lawmaker’s Minna residence on Saturday night.
