Gun-wielding men have reportedly abducted the Benue State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Chief Dennis Ekpe Ogbu.
TheNigerian News gathered that the commissioner was kidnapped alongside Honourable Agbo Ode, one of his in-laws, and his driver.
The incident happened on Sunday along David Mark Farm in Akpa Otobi. The victims were on their way from Otukpo to the commissioner’s hometown, Utonkon in Ado LGA when they were ambushed by the hoodlums and whisked away to unknown destination.
An eyewitness, Ugaba Alechenu said the driver’s side back tyre was flattened by the kidnappers who demaged the car doors.
According to Alechenu: “It happened right in front of me as the well armed convoy I was in approached. We were coming from Igumale yesterday when I saw the incident from afar. We were flagged down by some okada riders warning us of the activity ahead.
I even saw them running into the Bush on sighting us.
He was kidnapped from a white hilux and the drivers side back tyre was flattened probably with a gun. Both passenger’s side doors were ajar.
Na this morning I de hear this.
Knowing how notorious that area is, I wonder why he didn’t decide to follow our convoy because I think he overtook us somewhere around Idokpo and Ogi.”
It was learnt that the commissioner’s official vehicle had since been recovered from the scene and taken to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Otukpo.
However, their abductors are yet to establish contact with the victims’ families as of the time of filing this report.
Efforts by our correspondent to get police comments on the incident proved abortive as the Benue State Police spokesperson, Catherine Anene’s telephone line was unreachable for a long time.
