Police arrest trigger-happy officer over murder of Ajah resident in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of an Inspector of Police in the Ajah Division over the killing of a man identified as Gafaru Buraimoh residing in Happy Land Estate, Ajah.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the Command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, added that a “full-scale investigation” had been launched into the incident which he said occurred around 11.30 pm on Tuesday.
Hundeyin noted that the officer behind the shooting was “immediately disarmed and has been detained.”
While commiserating with the family of the deceased, Hundeyin assured the public that the investigation into the immediate and remote circumstances leading to the shooting would be brought to a “speedy and conclusive end.”
The incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday morning in front of Ajiwe police station, Ajah.
According to the statement, “At about 11:30 pm on Tuesday, December 06 2022, a shooting incident involving men of Ajah Division, resulted in the unfortunate death of Gafaru Buraimoh of Happy Land Estate, Ajah.”
“The officer behind the shooting, an Inspector of Police, was immediately disarmed and has been detained, as a full-scale investigation has commenced.”
“The Lagos State Police Command through the Area Commander, Elemoro and Divisional Police Officer, Ajah has since notified and established contact with the family.”
“The Command, while commiserating with the family of the deceased over the avoidable and most unfortunate incident, gives assurances that the already commenced investigation into the immediate and remote circumstances leading to the shooting will be brought to a speedy and conclusive end, while equally ensuring that justice is served.”
