The President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, has declared the Vice Presidential Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Kashim Shettima, as the party’s standard bearer, despite Bola Tinubu being the winner of the party’s presidential primaries.

Senator Lawan while sharing photos from a meeting with stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress from Yobe State, and Shettima, declared the former Borno state governor as the “Presidential Candidate of our great party, the APC.”

He tweeted: “Met yesterday with stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress from Yobe State, including the Presidential Candidate of our great party, the APC, Senator Kashim Shettima.”

His tweet elicited a lot of negative reactions with some online users alleging that former Lagos state governor, Tinubu is obviously “a mere placeholder” for Shettima, a northerner, as affirmed by the Senate President.

Others claimed that northerners want a repeat of the 2010 debacle where Vice President, Goodluck Jonathan, a southerner became president after president Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, a northerner, died.

Consequently, the Senate President pulled down the post, and made a new post identifying Shettima as “the Vice Presidential Candidate of our great party, the APC.”

His new tweet read: “Met yesterday with stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress from Yobe State, including the Vice Presidential Candidate of our great party, the APC, Senator Kashim Shettima.”
