Wizkid becomes first African artist to bag US Diamond certification
Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid, has made history as the first African musician with a Diamond single in the US.
This followed the Diamond certification of the 2016 global hit song ‘One Dance’ by Canadian music star, Drake, which featured the Nigerian prodigy and British singer, Kyla.
The song was recently certified Diamond in the US by RIAA for reaching a milestone of 10,000,000 units sold in the country.
The song which made history as the first record to hit two billion streams on Spotify shot Wizkid to international stardom.
Meanwhile, Drake is now the highest certified singles artist in @RIAA history, passing @Eminem (184 million units as a lead).
Aside from Wizkid, Drake has worked with other Nigerian artists like Tems, Burna Boy, Rema, and Tekno.
