Benzema retires from international football after missing World Cup
France striker, Karim Benzema has quit international football.
The Ballon d’Or holder announced his retirement from the French senior men’s team on Monday, barely 24 hours after France lost the 2022 World Cup final to Argentina.
Benzema, who missed France’s run to the World Cup final due to injury, call time on his France duty after he reportedly fell out with coach Didier Deschamps.
He was initially in France’s World Cup squad but was sent home on the eve of the tournament after picking up in training.
There was some speculation that he could have returned for the final after playing in a friendly for Real Madrid.
However, Benzema reportedly rejected the opportunity to go back to Qatar after falling out with manager Didier Deschamps.
