The Senate has postponed the passage of the 2023 budget, as well as the Finance Bill until Wednesday, December 28, 2022.

This was announced during Thursday’s plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, who explained that the postponement was due to some challenges in receiving the report on the 2023 budget from the appropriations committee.

Lawan revealed that “the appropriations bill came to the National Assembly from the executive with some problems and when the committee came to reconcile the figures, the challenge became obvious and difficult to deal with.”

He added that the Senate Appropriations Committee began a process of cleaning up the 2023 budget first and they engaged the executive in the clean-up exercise, noting that the process was, however, concluded on Wednesday, December 21 and the Committee could not finalise the report for submission on Thursday.
