General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defense Staff, was visited at the Defense Headquarters in Abuja by General Michael Langley, the Commander of the United States Africa Command.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defense Information, stated in a statement issued on Wednesday that Richard Mills, the US Ambassador to Nigeria, was with the AFRICOM Commander.

Gusau said Langley praised the Defence Headquarters’ approach to fighting instability.

Nigeria’s strategy for addressing domestic instability and its strategic leadership position in the sub-region were commended by General Langley, he said. The Chief of Defense Staff was also congratulated by him on being appointed Chairman of the Committee of ECOWAS Chiefs of Defense Staff.
Gusau went on to say that the CDS promised to work with other countries to eradicate terrorism in West Africa.

He added that in order to get weapons and other equipment, Musa asked for American assistance.

The CDS responded by thanking the AFRICOM Commander for his time in Nigeria and assuring him that the Armed Forces will work with other countries in the sub-region to combat all types of crime and terrorism, Gusau said.

“General Musa also wanted to strengthen defense cooperation with the United States, especially in areas like intelligence sharing, training, and assisting in the acquisition of platforms that are required from the United States.”
