2026 WCQ: Super Eagles to cope without Osimhen, Chukwueze

Jose Peseiro, the head coach of the Super Eagles, has stated that he is not worried about the absence of a few important players for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Lesotho.

Due to fitness concerns, Zaidu Sanusi, Samuel Chukwueze, and talisman forward Victor Osimhen were left off the qualifying squad.

During Nigeria’s friendly match against Saudi Arabia earlier this month, Osimhen and Chukwueze suffered hamstring strains.

Sanusi has made a comeback to the field for FC Porto, a Portuguese team, following a six-week layoff.

Peseiro claimed that he possesses enough quality to fill in for the trio when they are not there.

“No, Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Zaidu, and other people are not suitable; however, I am merely discussing them because you inquired.” Peseiro said at a press conference in Uyo, “It’s better I think about the 23 players, come with more confidence; I don’t care about the others, only I said recover well, for that I call them.”

Not just Osimhen, but all of them, I constantly call. I tell them, “You do a good job, you work well, but when we go camping, this team is our team and no other team.”

On Thursday, the Super Eagles will play the Lesotho Likuena at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
