A Nigerian man has protested at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, claiming the party abandoned him after he claimed to have sold his house while working for the party’s 2023 election campaigns.
The man, clad in a blue shirt branded with APC, carried a placard with the inscription, “Reward me or kill me.”
A video of the protest started circulating on Facebook Thursday night and was widely shared on 𝕏.
In the video, the man was seen pacing around the entrance of the APC secretariat, raising his placard and shouting towards the building as security personnel and bystanders watched.
“I sold my house because I felt indebted to APC,” he said. Because of the work I did for APC.”
When bystanders asked who sent him he pointed to his APC-branded shirt and said, “These are the people that sent me.
He said his sacrifices were tied to the party’s 2023 general election campaigns and added that he had not been rewarded.
“This is the work I did for APC and at the end of it, no reward. “But the CSO threatened to shoot me and nothing will happen,” he said.
He also said that he could no longer afford to pay his children’s school fees and had left them in the care of the party’s Chief Security Officer.
“Since yesterday, my children, I don’t know where they are,” he said. I left my children with the CSO and APC because I can’t care for them again. I can no longer pay school fees.”
On the placard he carried were the words, “All Progressives Congress. Reward me or kill me.” I’m a party man, not a lunatic. I have given so much to the party. I am depressed and my health is impacted.”
The man is seen moving around the secretariat gate with the placard in the roughly 30-second video and looks visibly distressed.
In the footage, no APC official was seen talking to him.
As of the time of filing this report, the APC had not issued an official statement on the incident.
