2027: Can Amaechi Defeat Atiku in the Primaries? Ex-Governor’s Ally Speaks on Possible Deal

Rotimi Amaechi, the former minister of transportation, is still committed to winning the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket, according to one of his senior aides.

In an interview with Sunday Punch, a senior ADC stakeholder stated that the former governor of Rivers State had decided to run for president but warned that discussions about a vice presidential offer are still too early.

“ADC is eyeing bloc votes from the north, and it would be better to run a candidate from the area,” he stated. Amaechi is considering running for president. However, politics is dynamic, and as the primary draws near, a lot will change. The presidential ticket is not yet ready for discussion. Let’s hold off.

But according to a former governor’s ally who also spoke on condition of anonymity, “We need to calculate properly because we have to be honest with ourselves: will Amaechi beat Atiku in the primary? Seeking a settlement before the primary might not be a bad idea if that is not an option. It might not be a bad idea to accept Atiku’s running mate position. It is preferable to strike an agreement before the primary because there will be too many brushes after the primary.

“With what you’re seeing, will Obi run the primary against Atiku in the ADC?” he went on. Additionally, I don’t think he will take a running mate position if he is unable to obtain the ADC ticket. He is postponing joining the party because of this. However, the situation will be better the following year, and Amaechi is Atiku’s best running mate.
