Barrister Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on policy communication, stated that President Tinubu is expected to secure up to two million votes in the South-East in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking in a video interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, August 13, Bwala claimed this figure would be four to six times higher than what Tinubu obtained in the 2023 election.
Bwala attributed this anticipated increase to the recent defections of southern governors to the APC and endorsements from governors in opposition parties, which he said would boost Tinubu’s popularity in the region.
In the 2023 election, Tinubu had a poor performance in the South-East, receiving only 127,605 votes across the five states — Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Imo — and failed to reach 25 percent in most of them. Political observers project Peter Obi as a leading contender in the South-East for the 2027 election.
Bwala said, “You see the southeast, I guarantee you President Bola Tinubu is going to get more than four times, if not six times the value of the votes he got in 2023. He will get up to 2 million.”
The South-East remains a key battleground, with Tinubu expected to hold bilateral talks with regional stakeholders and further consolidate support.
