2027 Election: Wamakko Denies VP Ambition Amid Shettima Replacement Rumours

In the run-up to the general elections in 2027, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, the former governor of Sokoto State and current senator for Sokoto North, has categorically dismissed rumors that he is considering running for vice president.

It started as a rumor that President Bola Tinubu could fire Vice President Kashim Shettima for a new running partner as part of political realignments. Abdallah Shehu El-Kurebe, Wamakko’s spokesperson, wrote in a statement that the assertion was “false, unauthorised, and politically mischievous.”

Support for Wamakko’s purported vice presidential bid was suggested in the report, which was published online and attributed to Abdullahi Yerima, the chairman of the Kebbe Local Government. Wamakko, however, denied the allegation, saying: “Senator Wamakko has never, either in private or publicly, indicated interest in running for vice president in the 2027 elections or in any kind of political arrangement of that kind. Such a claim is unsubstantiated, untrue, and extremely careless.

Wamakko emphasized that he is still dedicated to providing responsible leadership to the people of Sokoto State and Nigeria and that he will not be sidetracked by “opportunistic narratives concocted for selfish motives.”

The governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda, has similarly denied similar allegations that he is on the vice presidential ticket. The rumors, according to his chief press secretary Ibrahim Mohammed, are “mere political permutations,” and Radda is still committed to carrying out his mandate in Katsina.
