2027 Elections: PDP Will Challenge APC Fiercely — Gov. Bala Mohammed

By Saawua Terzungwe

As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has sent a clear signal to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is gearing up for a serious political contest.

Speaking at the opening of the 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP in Abuja, Governor Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, reaffirmed the party’s strength and determination.

“PDP is a party that has shown resilience. We are working behind the scenes to remain united and provide a credible platform for Nigerians,” he said.

He assured members that PDP governors stand firmly with the National Working Committee (NWC) and are committed to ensuring the party gives APC “a big fight” in 2027.

Also addressing the gathering, Ahmed Makarfi, Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees and former Kaduna State governor, emphasized the urgency of holding an elective national convention to usher in new party leaders. He expressed hope that this would encourage the return of estranged party members.

Senator Abba Moro, Senate Minority Leader, condemned political defections, noting that some politicians switch parties purely for survival. He pledged that PDP senators would remain loyal and focused on rebuilding the party ahead of the next election.
