2027 Elections: Saraki Predicts More Defections from PDP

Bukola Saraki, the chairman of the PDP Reconciliation Committee, warns that despite ongoing attempts to reposition the party in front of the general elections in 2027, additional defections from the party are likely to occur.

During his appearance on Arise TV’s “Prime Time” program on Friday, the former Senate President made this statement.

Saraki also criticized the ongoing controversy around the legitimate National Secretary.
“We should brace ourselves for the potential that PDP may have one or two more defections. We haven’t saw the worst of the PDP defections yet. There is a good chance that one or two governors and possibly some senators would defect,” he stated.

He emphasized that it allows the PDP time to recuperate and rebuild before the election cycle starts in full gear, saying that the crises’ timing was advantageous.

Some of us find it advantageous that this is taking place early in the PDP. We’re fortunate that this isn’t occurring because, say, in late 2026, we wouldn’t have even had time to recuperate and reorganize,” he said.

Despite the national crises, the PDP is still powerful at the state level and at the grassroots level, according to the former governor of Kwara State.
While cautioning that the stakes are higher than just party survival, Saraki expressed hope that the party was already setting the stage for the 2027 elections.
