248 Passengers Escape Death as Qatar Airways Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Lagos

At the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on Friday, a Qatar Airways aircraft with 248 passengers and 12 crew members had to make an emergency landing due to a mechanical issue.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, or LASEMA, said in a statement that the aircraft experienced a malfunction while in Nigerian airspace, requiring an emergency landing.

LASEMA stated that it got a distress call using its toll-free emergency lines, 767/112. The aircraft was in distress, as confirmed by the LASEMA Response Team, LRT, when they arrived on the scene.

At Murtala Mohammed International Airport, the pilot successfully landed on the runway while the LASEMA Response Team and other emergency personnel were on high alert.

The multi-agency responders’ cooperative efforts were coordinated. The aircraft was transported to the apron for thorough inspection and timely repairs following a thorough inspection by the pilot and the engineering team.

“No injuries or fatalities were reported; all passengers of the distressed aircraft were safely evacuated,” the statement stated.

The agency stated that there was no significant damage to the aircraft despite the technical problem and the emergency landing.
