The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Bethrand Onuoha, has presented cheques worth N39,042,593.07 to the families of 25 deceased policemen in the state.

The command’s spokesman, William Aya, in a statement on Thursday, said the cheques were handed out to the families on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the CP, while giving out the cheques to the families, explained that “The gesture was part of the Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Insurance schemes aimed at improving the welfare of the families of deceased police officers and to also support police officers who became accident victims while carrying out their duty.”

The CP said the gesture was also to encourage other officers in active service to be diligent.

“The Nigeria Police Force recognises the sacrifices made to secure the nation by the deceased officers as well as those who are accident victims,” the CP said.

Onuoha urged the beneficiaries not to misuse the money but to make judicious use of it for the betterment of their families.

The beneficiaries appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for the gesture and promised to make use of the money for the benefit of their families.
