A 45-year-old man has been detained for railway vandalism by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps’ (NSCDC) Bauchi State Command, which has also retrieved millions of naira’s worth of stolen railway supplies.
During a press briefing in Bauchi, Commandant Oloyede Nelson Oyerinde revealed this.
According to him, the arrest and recovery were a part of the Corps’ continuous efforts to protect vital national infrastructure.
“After receiving reliable information from the DSS Alkaleri Division, our operatives promptly responded to a report of railway track vandalism at New Gwaram, along Gombe Road, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m.,” Oyerinde said.

The crew recovered a white Peugeot J5 loaded with vandalized railway components, including 20 bags of charcoal, 14 fish plates, and 53 sleepers with bolts and nuts, even though the suspects had already left before the authorities arrived.
Usman Jungudo was arrested as a result of additional operations in the Tubule Ward in Kirfi LGA’s Cross Tasha, Faruqu, and Taliyaje regions.
The defendant was caught illegally disassembling and reselling railroad components.
“Several items were recovered and secured at the state headquarters, and he was reported to have confessed to the crime during interrogation,” he said.
The operation’s success was largely due to the officers’ prompt and efficient response, which Commandant Oyerinde praised.
This is a strong warning: Vandalism of public property in Bauchi State will not be accepted. The entire force of the law will be applied to offenders,” he said.
Investigations were proceeding, he continued, and the suspect would face appropriate charges.
As “timely and accurate information is vital in combating crime and protecting our communities,” Oyerinde also urged locals to assist the NSCDC by reporting suspicious activity.
