83 PDP Members Drag Imo Chairman, INEC to Court Over State Congress

As a result of 83 members suing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, the party’s state chairman, and other parties over the actions of the state congress, the leadership issue inside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has gotten worse.
The plaintiffs claim that the congress that produced Nwachukwu and other officials on August 31, 2024, was “marred by exclusion and illegality,” claiming that it broke both the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act of 2022.
The irate members, led by Lambert Eze, charged that the party had illegally excluded from the exercise properly elected representatives from Ideato North and South Local Government Areas.
They are asking for an order to declare the congress void, prevent present officials from posing as executives, and mandate the conduct of a new, democratic congress that is attended by all eligible delegates.

The PDP national body and ten other people, including Hon. Chris Ozoemenam and Hon. Dr. Sylvester Durukwuaku, the party’s interim leaders in Ideato North and South LGAs, have also joined the lawsuit.

The case was filed through their attorney, K.U. Alisigwe of Ononaku Chambers, Owerri, and was designated FHC/OW/CS/51/2025.

The plaintiffs urged the court to support their stance and restore what they called “the integrity of internal democracy in Imo PDP,” calling the congress “unlawful, null, and void.”
