Man arraigned for stealing N700,000 motorcycle in Ekiti

A 23-year-old man, Ajayi Sunday, was arraigned by the Ekiti State Police Command before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, alleged on Thursday that the defendant stole one red Bajaj motorcycle valued at N700,000 belonging to one Adeniyi Segun.

He said, “The defendant committed the offence on July 13, 2024, at about 07.30p.m in Ido-Ekiti. The offence committed contravenes Section 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.”

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

Counsel for the defendant, Mr Paul Ayantoyinbo, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till August 26 for hearing.

The police also arraigned a 52-year-old man, Taye Oni, before a Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly receiving stolen motor vehicle parts.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant on July 16, at about 10a.m in Ilupeju-Ekiti, allegedly “received stolen motor vehicle parts, motorcycle and scraps from Ayodeji Olasoluyi and Olowulafe Niyi, property of the Ekiti State Electricity Board.”

Bamikole said, “The offence committed by the defendant contravened Section 343(2)(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 20211” and asked the court for adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.

Counsel for the defendant, Mr. Timi Omotosho, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail and to provide credible surety.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till August 26 for hearing.
