It has been claimed that President Bola Tinubu has implicitly given his consent to the expulsion of Hon. Mudasiru Obasa from his position as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. This comes after Obasa was impeached by 32 members out of the 40 members of the Assembly within the past week.

In order to justify Obasa’s removal from office, the parliamentarians pointed to a number of suspected violations, including highhandedness and political corruption.

In a closed-door meeting in Abuja on Wednesday evening, President Tinubu met with the Assembly’s new leadership, including the newly elected Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC).

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, and the deposed Speaker Obasa were notably absent from the meeting, although Obasa was supposedly in Abuja.

According to several sources who spoke with Western Post, President Tinubu has expressed his displeasure with the manner in which the MPs carried out the impeachment process, comparing it to a coup.

However, after pleadings from GAC leaders and recognition of Obasa’s alleged abuses, Tinubu reluctantly approved the Assembly’s decision.

Speaker Meranda, on her part, committed to prioritize openness, inclusion, and good governance in her leadership, assuring the successful delivery of democratic dividends to Lagosians.
