Police confiscate 495kg of Indian hemp in Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command, on Sunday, arrested a 52-year-old suspected impersonator, dealer, and supplier of Indian hemp, identified as Vincent Ojo, from the Rukuba Quarters area of Jos North, Plateau State.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the suspect was arrested on Saturday, at about 9:00 a.m. by officers attached to Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madaki.

TheNigerian Metro reports that the officers were on patrol at the Jekadafari area of Gombe State during the end-of-the-month general sanitation.

“The suspect presented himself as a police officer serving at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, but during interrogation, he couldn’t provide his staff tag, rank, or department,” Abdullahi said.

A search of the suspect’s vehicle, a black Lexus with registration number GWA79CN Abuja, uncovered 495 kilograms of Indian hemp, valued at approximately N12,652,000. An additional number plate, BWR290AX, was also recovered as evidence.

The suspect confessed to buying and transporting the Indian hemp from Ajegunle village in Elesha LGA, Osun State, to Old Rukuba in Plateau State, to deliver it to Biu LGA in Borno State.

Abdullahi noted that the investigation was ongoing, and the suspect would be charged to court for possible prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation. The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly.
