Following a recent Supreme Court decision, the Rivers State Government, led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has legally recognized the Speaker of the State House of Assembly who is loyal to former Governor and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
In a letter to the Assembly, issued by Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the government recognized that it was aware of the resolutions passed by the Assembly but pointed out that lawmakers had not yet formally communicated with it.
According to the statement, the letter was circulated on social media, but as of March 4 at the latest, it had not been received by the Governor’s Office, the Deputy Governor’s Office, or the Office of the Accountant-General.
In the letter, Governor Siminalayi Fubara also cited his state broadcast on March 2, in which he reaffirmed his pledge to uphold the Supreme Court’s decision regardless of one’s own beliefs.

He gave his word that the state would be served and the rule of law would be respected.
In addition, Danagogo informed the public that the government’s legal team is still seeking a certified true copy of the Supreme Court ruling and promised that Governor Fubara will put the ruling into effect as soon as the official paperwork arrived.
