Shadow Govt: Leave Pat Utomi Alone, There Are More Important Things To Deal With – Akande To DSS

Laolu Akande, a former presidential spokesperson and political analyst, has asked the Department of State Services (DSS) to let Pat Utomi go and concentrate on the country’s more urgent problems.
This was said by Akande in a Friday interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily in response to the security agency’s legal action against Utomi.
Keep in mind that Utomi was sued by the DSS for allegedly trying to establish a shadow government in order to unlawfully steal President Bola Tinubu’s presidential jurisdiction.
Nonetheless, Akande downplayed concerns about the shadow government, seeing it as a non-threatening manifestation of political ideology rather than a danger to national security.

“I would advise the DSS employees to avoid causing themselves too much trouble. The DSS has other, more pressing issues to handle. We should do it, please. Utomi is just having fun, so please leave him alone,” he remarked.

In contrast, Akande maintained, the idea was meant to promote political participation and provide ideological options, not to overthrow the government.

I wouldn’t be able to say whether it’s illegal. I will leave that decision to the attorneys. But it’s an expression of an idea, I believe,” he said.

Drawing attention to what he called a “serious vacuum” in Nigerian politics, Akande blasted the opposition parties—especially the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party—for failing to adequately discuss policy issues with the ruling party.

The fact that Professor Pat Utomi recognizes the significant void, even when it comes to challenging the present administration’s beliefs, is something we cannot dispute. That footing has been totally lost by the opposition, whether it be the PDP or the LP,” he remarked.

He added that Utomi’s strategy is to fill a leadership void with helpful suggestions rather than seize power.
