Oyo: JAC Petitions Gov Makinde, Speaker Ogundoyin Over Delay in Appointing Rector, Principal Officers
The three unions’ Joint Action Committee, or JAC, at Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic in Eruwa, Oyo State, has petitioned Governor Seyi Makinde over what it claims is a delay in the appointment of the institution’s substantive principle executives.
According to JAC, the institution’s major officers, including the Registrar, Rector, Bursar, and Librarian, have been appointed slowly, which is concerning and inconsistent with the Polytechnic Acts.
JAC made the announcements in a letter to Makinde, copies of which were also given to the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Segun Olayiwola, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.
The leaders of the three unions on the JAC platform, including Com. Adeboje Taiwo, Com. Titiloye Joseph, Com. Jayeola Titus, Com. Olayanju Abiodun, Com. Ojenike Olusola, and Com. Lala Tunde, signed the letter.
The letter was released early on Tuesday.
In the statement, JAC praised the governor for what it called his dedication to the proper reorientation occurring within the organization.
However, it denounced the institution’s main officers’ delayed appointment.
The appointment of acting management in place of substantive principle executives throughout the past seven (7) years has been characterized by JAC as being outside the scope of the Polytechnic Acts.
In order to declare the potential suitable substantive officers for such positions, the unions then took use of the chance to call on the governor.
The letter states: “The Governor kindly appointed Professor Adebiyi Kazeem, an experienced administrator, to restore the institution’s long-lost reputation by employing Acting Management” in the previous seven (7) years, which is not consistent with the Polytechnic Acts’ creation.
Naturally, Professor Adebiyi Adekunle Kazeem led the Governing Council, which did an excellent job of promoting the Principal Officer position, completing the application process, and recommending the qualified applicants. After concluding on July 27, 2025, the exercise was suitably suggested. His Excellency, Governor Makinde, was also greatly appreciated by the Unions for the recent release of additional subventions to lessen the impact of the institution’s salary increase.
Despite this, the institution’s long-lost reputation—the threat of acting management as principal officers—remains visible after seven (7) years. Sir, this exercise had been attempted twice with no success despite the continual utilization of resources. The same resource will be employed for the third time, and the Governing Council has taken the necessary action and suggested the potential, eligible applicants.
For this reason, the unions ask His Excellency to declare the potential substantive officials who meet the necessary qualifications. It is the Trade Unions’ hope that His Excellency will not postpone the announcement any longer. As we await the upcoming meeting of the prospective qualified substantive officials, the unions, as stakeholders, will continue to ensure industrial peace.
