The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has denied allegations that he instructed stakeholders to boycott the commissioning and partial opening of the Bonny/Bodo Road by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.
Wike said he was unaware of the commissioning, which took place earlier in December 2025.
The minister made the clarification on Tuesday during a Christmas visit to his supporters in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
He explained that on the same day the commissioning was held, he was attending the burial of the sister of Senator Allwell Onyeso, noting that many political leaders were equally unaware of the Federal Government delegation’s visit.
According to him, once he received information about the commissioning, he directed stakeholders across the Ogoni region to attend the event.
Wike described the allegations against him as politically motivated, insisting that falsehoods would not earn anyone an automatic governorship ticket.
He said, “Some people play politics with everything. I hear people say I told some leaders not come when the delegation from the Federal Government came.
“That’s a lie from the pit of hell.
“On that particular day, we were going to Senator Allwell Onyeso’s sister’s burial and most of the leaders were not aware that such a visit was taking place.
“And so when I heard this, they came. I said no. The mere fact that you have heard it, it’s a Federal delegation, make sure.”
Wike added that he was not formally invited to the commissioning.
“After all I was not invited, nobody told me. But people will go and play politics. And I have said, no amount of conspiracy, no amount of telling lies will give anybody a ticket.
“If you like, tell all kinds of lies you want to tell, say all kinds of things against me, it is not a guarantee for ticket,” he said.
The gathering was attended by prominent political figures from the area, including the South-South Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Victor Giadom, Senator Magnus Abe, and others.
