Two crushed, several injured in multiple Lagos road crashes

Two people lost their lives, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in multiple road accidents recorded across Lagos State on January 1, 2026.

One of the fatal crashes occurred at Iyana Itire, inward Oshodi, where a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number SMK 850 HK collided with a Toyota Sienna marked KSF 329 XL.
The impact claimed the lives of two occupants on the spot.

In a separate incident along Ibeju Bridge on the inward Eleko stretch of the Lekki-Ajah Expressway, a DAF tanker rammed into an Opel Zafira with registration number EPE 537 GZ, leaving two persons seriously injured.
Another accident was reported at Owode Elede, inward Owode Onirin, along Ikorodu Road, involving a Volkswagen commercial bus (AGL 713 XP) and a Toyota Corolla (AGL 607 JF). Four occupants were injured in the crash.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, confirmed the incidents.
Its General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said LASTMA personnel promptly alerted the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, SHEMU, to evacuate the deceased, while the injured victims were taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Traffic flow was also restored after the incidents.
Bakare-Oki described the crashes as preventable, attributing them largely to reckless driving and excessive speeding.

He advised motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and exercise caution, particularly during festive periods.
