During coordinated air interdiction operations in portions of Borno and Yobe states, including the infamous Timbuktu Triangle, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai has neutralized dozens of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.
The movement and consolidation of ISWAP elements along the Ambia Tasha, Ambia Sheruri, Ambia Turo, and Shangamaru axes in Yobe State on January 13 was disclosed by intelligence gathered from the Army’s unmanned aerial vehicles, according to Security Expert Zagazola Makama.
It was also disclosed that the military was able to precisely identify the terrorists’ movements and assembly locations thanks to real-time intelligence and ongoing aerial surveillance.
It was understood that the Air Component authorized and carried out precision attacks against specified terrorist assets, including motorcycles used for mobility and logistics, after the intelligence picture was confirmed.
More than ten combatants were neutralized during the operation, according to the initial battle damage assessment, which indicated that the terrorists suffered severe losses.
According to sources who provided details of the attack, the terrorists were seen congregating beneath dense vegetation in an apparent attempt to hide from aircraft surveillance.
We saw perhaps ten terrorists riding bicycles and motorcycles gathered beneath a big, dense tree, and there may be others hiding in the canopy. We were tasked to engage, and the strike was executed precisely,” the sources said.
They stated that surveillance conducted after the strike showed that the group had been almost completely neutralized.
According to the sources, “post-strike observation indicated overwhelming neutralization, with only one individual seen fleeing the impact area.”
The sources reiterated the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai’s commitment to continuous pressure on terrorist networks in the Northeast.
They claim that the continuous air operations are intended to limit the terrorists’ freedom of movement, weaken their logistics, and safeguard communities that are at risk.
According to the sources, “these operations demonstrate our resolve to deny terrorists freedom of movement, degrade their logistics, and protect communities.”
They also stated that precision engagement and air surveillance would continue in close collaboration with ground forces.
According to one of the sources cited by Makama, “air surveillance and precision engagement will continue in close coordination with ground forces until remaining threats are neutralized.”
