Boko Haram Ambush in Borno Kills Newly Promoted Lieutenant Colonel, Six Soldiers

Six people have reportedly been killed by Boko Haram militants in Borno State, including a recently promoted Lieutenant Colonel.

On Monday, January 26, 2026, rebels attacked a troop of soldiers led by a Lieutenant Colonel named Mohammed from Maiduguri to Damasak in the Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State, according to Sahara Reporters.

According to military officials, the terrorists employed a lot of gunfire and explosives.

In addition to the dead bodies that were found, numerous additional soldiers suffered severe injuries, and an unknown number of men are still unaccounted for.

Seven soldiers, including a Lieutenant Colonel who had just been promoted from Major, were killed in an ambush on January 26, 2026, while troops were traveling from Maiduguri to Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Lieutenant Colonel, who served as their commander, mobilized them for surveillance after learning that terrorists were active in the region. On the way, though, they were ambushed.

Their remains are currently in the 7 Division Hospital. The late commander’s phone was taken by the terrorists. Later, senior authorities called his line, and militants from Boko Haram answered, according to a source cited by SaharaReporters.
