Ten Years Under APC Is a Disaster – Hashim-Olawepo

According to former presidential candidate Gbenga Hashim-Olawepo, the economic situation in Nigeria during the ten years of the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government was disastrous.

In an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” Hashim-Olawepo, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made this statement on Wednesday.

He claims that Nigeria’s GDP was higher 20 years ago, when former President Olusegun Obasanjo was leaving office, than it is now.

The lawmaker said that by the time previous President Goodluck Jonathan turned over power to APC’s Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s economy was the largest in Africa. However, he called the current state of affairs as a catastrophe, claiming that Nigeria was now only in fourth or fifth place.

Nigeria’s GDP currently ranges from 220 billion to 230 billion. The World Bank’s and the International Monetary Fund’s prognosis supports that.

When former President Olusegun Obasanjo left office in 2007, Nigeria’s GDP was 268 billion, more than it is today.

“This catastrophe occurred under the APC. Nigeria’s GDP has increased to 574 billion when Goodluck Jonathan relinquished power, making it the continent’s largest economy. We are on the fourth of the fifth today.

“It is tragic and disastrous what has happened to the economy in ten years of APC government,” he declared.
