Bandits Kill Three, Kidnap Catholic Priest and 10 Others in Kaduna

Ten people, including a Catholic priest named Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Asuwaye, were kidnapped by suspected bandits after a brutal raid on the Karku hamlet in Kaduna State’s Kauru Local Government Area.

It was understood that the event happened early on Saturday morning.

Jacob Shanet, the Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, said in a statement released on Saturday that locals have characterized the perpetrators as terrorists who executed a well-planned attack.

Three people were killed in the attack, the statement said. Alhaji Kusari, Mr. Maitala Kaura, and Mr. Jacob Dan’azumi were identified as the three individuals.

According to the statement, the attack took place at the priest’s home at approximately 3:20 a.m. (WAT).

In addition to expressing its profound sadness over the situation, the diocese urged priests, Christians, and good-will individuals to pray for the safe and prompt return of the kidnapped victims.

Additionally, it offered prayers for the spirits of those slain in the assault to rest.

The statement also called on the Blessed Virgin Mary to intervene on behalf of the abducted victims and called for sustained solidarity in the face of what it said was a deteriorating security situation in some areas of Kaduna State.
