Lagos APC Clears 27 Aspirants Per LGA Ahead of Saturday Congress

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has concluded the screening of aspirants seeking leadership positions across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs), ahead of its local government congress scheduled for Saturday.

A total of 27 aspirants from each LGA underwent screening at the party’s State Secretariat in Ogba. The exercise was conducted by the LGA Ward Congress Committee in line with the party’s internal guidelines.

Chairman of the screening committee, Barrister Mungji B. Salama, described the process as peaceful and transparent. He disclosed that no aspirant was disqualified, noting that arrangements based on consensus among stakeholders would be honoured where applicable.

According to Salama, the official list of cleared aspirants will be released after the screening process, and only approved candidates will participate in the congress. He urged party members to maintain unity, especially those who may not emerge successful, emphasising that future opportunities remain open within the party structure.

Salama further commended the Lagos chapter of the APC for its organisation, describing the state as a model in adhering strictly to party procedures.

Also speaking, Lagos APC Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, said the screening exercise signalled the final stage before the congress. He reiterated the party’s commitment to openness, pointing out that the APC consistently invites the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and media representatives to monitor its internal electoral processes.

Ojelabi stressed the importance of compliance with the Electoral Act, particularly for officials who will manage party affairs at the local level. He described leadership within the party as a responsibility to serve and encouraged aspirants to view the congress as an opportunity to strengthen grassroots political engagement.

The congress is expected to produce new executives for the APC across Lagos LGAs and wards, reinforcing the party’s internal democratic framework.
